Good Without God Winter Clothing Drive

As in past winters, CFI Okanagan recently held its Good Without God Winter Clothing (Etc) Drive. This year, we collected items for the Kelowna Women’s Shelter, the Boys & Girls Club Downtown Youth Centre, Inn From The Cold, and the Kelowna Community Food Bank. Donors were very generous and we collected a lot of stuff — socks, coats, food, blankets, and more — to help clients of these charities through the winter.
Why do we do this? And why do we make a point of calling it “Good Without God”? We do this because helping those in need is simply the right thing to do, and sorting through winter clothing and donating some items that aren’t used any more is an easy way for many people to donate. We make a point of drawing attention to the fact that this clothing drive is run by atheists because of the fact that so many people of faith have the false view that atheists are bad people because we don’t have the guidance of their god and holy books. This is one small way that we try to counter the stereotype that atheists are immoral.
Our other charitable event that is currently ongoing on is our Sewing Group, which will be donating handmade toys to the Vernon Women’s shelter at the end of the year. Please contact Zena Ryder if you’d like to join in via the contact us page
