KASHA's Birding Walk
–
May 25, 2024
KASHA will have a bird walk at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 25 beginning at the Creekside Pub. We'll walk up the south side of Mission Creek to Casorso Road, cross the creek on the Casorso Road bridge, and return to the Pub for lunch on the north side of the creek. This walk should last about 2 hours, depending on our walking speed and the number of birds that we can find. In case of inclement weather, we will postpone the walk until 10:00 a.m., on Sunday, May 26.
A KASHA member and Ornithologist, Paul Hamel, will guide us on this walk. Click on the picture below to learn more about Paul.
We will meet in the Creekside Pub's parking lot.
Participants should bring binoculars if they have them. Paul is willing to share his, as we proceed. Please bring some water, insect repellent, a hat, and sunscreen. The trail may well be muddy in places. Paul will have an app on his phone, called Merlin, that can serve as a bird book. It's free and Paul will show interested people how to use it as we go.
If the Gordon Road underpasses are also closed, we will need to cross Gordon Road twice; once on the way out to Casorso and the other time on the way back. Participants may choose to return early by crossing the creek on the Gordon Road bridge. Participants who need a restroom can use the porta-potty on the Greenway a few 100 metres upstream from Casorso Road. That will mean crossing Casorso Road. twice.
We'll have some fun mostly listening to birds on that morning.
