Name: Loren Price
Birthplace: Spiritwood, Saskatchewan
How would you define yourself in terms of religion/spirituality?
Did you have a particular reason for starting up a CFI branch in the Okanagan?
We moved here from Saskatchewan in 2005, and I started up the group in 2010 because I wanted to be part of an “intellectual” group.
What were some of the defining moments that brought you to the point where you are now, in a religious/spiritual sense?
“There definitely was a moment when I became a skeptic. When I was 11 years old, my family was driving across Saskatchewan. We stopped by a gas station to pick up a few things. There wasn’t much there, just some free literature, some Christian propaganda about the world ending in 1989…. In my 20s, I started exploring more about Christianity. I read the Gnostic Gospels, and I started questioning Christianity — especially the Bible. I talked with a fundamental Christian pastor, and he told me that I was going to Hell.
The God of Bible seemed evil, and I wasn’t comfortable with this concept. Over a five-year stretch, in my early- to mid-thirties, I learned a lot about Christianity, and in 2008/2009, I decided to check it one more time from the perspective of an athiest. Within one hour, I considered myself an athiest.
