The Rocky Mountain Atheist group, our secular friends in Calgary, are sponsoring their second Annual Western Canadian Reason Conference on May 3rd., 2024 weekend.
The conference kicks off with a pub night on the 3rd.
The Rocky Mountain Atheists are proud to sponsor the WeCanReason (Western Canadian Reason) conference featuring:
Dr. Cara Santa Maria is a Los Angeles Area Emmy and Knight Foundation Award-winning journalist, science communicator, television personality, author, and podcaster. We are very honoured to have her speak to us. Dr. Santa Maria is a Clinical Psychologist with a concentration in Social Justice and Diversity. She co-hosts the Skeptics’ Guide to the Universe podcast as well as creating and hosting Talk Nerdy with Cara Santa Maria. She is a Founding Member of Nerd Brigade and co-founder of the annual SciCommCamp.
Hemant Mehta is the founder and editor of FriendlyAtheist.com, a YouTube creator, and a podcast co-host. He is a former National Board Certified math teacher in the suburbs of Chicago and continues to coach a competitive public speaking team. He has written multiple books, published crossword puzzles in the New York Times, and was a Jeopardy! Champion.
Dr. Eugenie C. Scott is the former Executive Director of the National Center for Science Education, Inc., a not-for-profit membership organization of scientists, teachers, and others that works to improve the teaching of science as a way of knowing, the teaching of evolution, and the teaching of climate change. A former college professor, Dr. Scott is an internationally-known expert on the creationism and evolution controversy and science denialism and is called upon by the press and other media to explain science to the general public. The author of Evolution vs Creationism: An Introduction and co-editor with Glenn Branch of Not in Our Classrooms: Why Intelligent Design is Wrong for our Schools, she is the recipient of numerous awards from scientists and educators, and has been awarded ten honorary degrees. Asteroid 249540 Eugeniescott was named for her in 2014.
