The money goes entirely into the moving and the upkeep of the pianos which is managed by Okanagan Piano Service and Festivals Kelowna.
Pianos in Parks” is a part of the international “public pianos” movement whose purpose is animating and decorating public spaces through visual art and community interaction.
Each year Festivals Kelowna showcases between 5 and 8 free to play pianos. The pianos are placed in high profile, accessible, public spaces throughout downtown Kelowna and Rutland to encourage residents and visitors to showcase their ‘inner Mozart’.
By being in the piano ambassador program KASHA has made it possible to save a piano that was otherwise destined for the landfill, but now gets tuned up with a funky fresh coat of paint and gifted back to the community for the summer.
KASHA member Saturday Sarazan painted the 2023 piano and we are fundraising in 2024 to keep the piano at Pandosy street location.
Kasha members are expected to check up on the piano once in a while to report to Festivals Kelowna if the piano needs cleaning or maintenance.
